Hello,

I'm looking for a used Dodger for a DE38 - canvas and hardware.  Any condition, just need something to start with.

I'm also looking for sails ( main, roller jib, cutter ).  They don't need to be in great condition, just enough to move the boat around for the summer.

I will pay shipping or if you're on the east coast, I'll pickup.  I live in Pittsburgh, but will drive.

Thanks

Mike

I think we still have the old dodger for valkyr somewhere.. it is in rough shape and we re-tasked the bow's so they wouldn't be included. I will ask the wife where we put it, if we kept it. It is in one piece but pretty worn dirty, and rotten, zippers pretty shot. We are in south carolina near myrtle beach and you can have it if we still have it.

Scott,

Thanks!  If you have it, I'll take it.  If anything, it could be used as a template.  Let me know.

Thanks again,

Mike

If you're looking to save money on a dodger, check out Sailrite's kits.

http://www.sailrite.com/Dodger.....odger-Kits

I've ordered two of their kits, and it's saved me bout $3000 doing it myself.  I got a foredeck bag for the staysail, and a mainsail cover.

They do have sail kits for the DE38 as well.

Scott, Thanks!!  I'll give you a call today or over the weekend.  Or you're welcome to call me if you're free. 312-498-5667

Thanks also for the suggestions from Sailrite.  I'll admit, I don't have the focus to sow my own sails.  Confused

You need a good machine to sew sails, and I agree it's certainly not for everybody.  The last quote I got from the sail loft for my boat is was $9500 to have completely new sails made.

If you just want cheapest dollar amount for the most miles I would look at some used sails. You can find some great deals on really good condition used sails sometimes. I would probably take a while to get them all the correct size but I would guess you could kit the boat out for between a 1000 and 2000 at the high end. I would try the different used sail lofts or even ebay sometimes.

Yeah, sails are quite a commodity, and you get what you pay for.

It also depends on what you want the sail for.  I wouldn't try to enter the Transpaciific Yacht Race with a set of $2000 used Sails, but if you're using it for day sailing you should be fine.

I wouldn't get a set of used up already sails but there are a lot of racers and rich cruisers that replace their sails annually or every other year or so. You can get almost brand new sails for 10 cents on the dollar if you look around and get a good deal. I would have no issue going to Europe or Hawaii on such a set of sails. I know of more than one person that has gone around the world on the same set of sails.. that is a lot of hours of use. Most of us just go out sailing a few days a month if that and the sails get relatively little wear on them.

Update on my sail quest.  I was able to pickup a really nice used roller jib ( North ) and a nearly new ( used one season and is in excellent condition ) main ( Housley ) from Bacon Sails in Annapolis MD for $1600.  Both are clean, crisp, triple stitched and ready to last for whatever adventures I find myself on.  I couldn't be more excited.

I apologize that I haven't gotten the dodger in the mail yet. It wasn't on the boat where we thought it was and not at the top of the pile in the shed here at the house. We will have to do some digging. We have been dealing with everyone in the family getting sick one after the other the last few weeks which hasn't help either. I haven't deposited the check you sent for shipping and won't until we find the dodger and get it ready to ship. Just wanted to give you an update.

First up apologies for this taking so long.

Just boxed up dodger and created shipping label. It is going out today.

Took a while to find and then actually getting it boxed up took a while.

If I can do something over the internet it gets done first thing. Real world letters or packages are a whole different story :)
