I'm going to try again to upload a pic. of a heater I installed ( 'Wave'-from Camping world). Have had catalytic heaters of different makes on two previous boats and love them. They are very safe, though any type of heater does need some ventilation into the boat. Also very efficient. The radiant heat will warm you up instantly and use of your on-board fans will circulate the heat like a convection heater does. Hooked-up to the propane line to the range with a shut-off valve after the 'T'.

Tim - DE32  'Pelli'.

PS the uploading system tells me it is there but I don't see it?

Tim,

I don't know if you have already read this post on uploading images. See if it helps. If not give me a call at 843-465-6555 and I will try and sit down and work through the issue with you so we can figure out what is going wrong.

Scott - sorry to be such a pest. I follow the instructions (just tried again), but when I click on the icon to the right of the url box, an old folder (with only half of the images that I have in it now), comes up and I can't get rid of it. I can go to upload and then browse, find the images I want from my pictures library and 'open' them, then upload them and wait till the blue progress bar completes. However, when I go to see them by clicking on the top browse button - I only get that old folder again(without the images I just uploaded)? I'm obviously not a good candidate to help with the website!!

Tim,

It sounds like the images are being uploaded into a folder other than the one your looking at. There is a drop down box in the upper right hand side of the images dialog called current folder. You can select what folder you upload images to as well as which one to browse. This allows you to categorise your images for different projects etc.. It will have an image count beside each folder of how many images are in the folder. Divide the number in half for the true number of images, when the images are uploaded it creates a thumbnail of each of the uploaded images and counts that also.

If this doesn't help then  I can reset your password and log in as you and see if something is truly wrong with the system for your user, I will send you the reset password so you can reset it to what you normally use afterward. 🙂 I'm heading to go sailing right now so it might be this evening or tomorrow before I can do this though.

Hey you did it 🙂

Heater looks nice. I was glad we had our heater already installed on the boat when we got it, also that it is an externally vented catalytic heater. The one thing about propane stoves and heaters that I don't like is that they put a lot of moisture into the air and in cold weather that condenses on the inside of the boat. We have been on the boat for the last few days and it is 25 degrees out. We were using a little electric heater last night and the boat was in the high 50's to low 60's this morning when we got up. I turned on the propane heater about and hour and a half ago and it is now 68 degrees in here.

The unit we have is the larger 5200 btu unit seen here http://ventedcatheater.com/2.html

It doesn't put out a HUGE amount of heat but does a good steady job. If I were living somewhere where the temps were subzero or even in the teens and twentys all the time in the winter I think I would move to a diesel or wood stove/heater that puts out more btu's but for moderate climates and an around freezing temps this thing does a great job. I have an old model from many years ago that the original company that made these manufactured. The one on the website is just the same just of a more modern provenance. The guy currently manufacturing them was an employee of the origninal company and when it went under or closed he continued to make money by servicing units and then started making the units again on his own and selling them. I have talked to him a couple times and he was really helpful and gave me some good advice and sent me a copy of the manual for the heater.

I didn't know you could still get the 'Platinumcat' - that was our favourite heater (on our Ingrid, from '93 to '01). Bit big and ugly, but as you say - it vented outside ( and it had a timer - so we could have it turn on before getting up in the morning!!).

TImer? thats interesting. This one has no timer. Just a thermostat. Just set the temp and it will do it's thing.  I guess you could put a timer inline on the power circuit though easy enough 🙂
