We have had the same DE-45 since 1986.  Out primary use of the boat was in my sailing charter business in Alaska and other parts of the world.  Being a professional fisherman, sailor and vessel operator for some time, the DE 45 we bought looked like a "condo on the water", but fit the needs of a small boat used in the U.S. National Park system (Glacier Bay).  Since buying it, we have been in just about every situation imaginable, including four hurricanes.  The boat has managed beautifully, we are still alive and there has never been any major damages: incredible.  We made Hawaii from Cabo in 18 days and half of that was with one foresail (lost the boom and genoa in a nasty squall). We've even made creditable showings in yacht races.

Although our lifestyle was considered by many to be retirement, we actually officially retired this year with my last "official" trip in the Bay this summer and Nanci's meager retirement checks starting this November.  Because of the economic situation, health issues and all of those things that can alter your CMG, we have not sailed the "Adventuress" for five years.  It is now our plan to put her back in the water in Mexico and perhaps make another round.  After 40 some years on the water however, I'm pretty much finished with those white knuckle, ass kicking and boring passages, even in the big ones.  So we'll keep it from Mexico to Panama most likely and sell the boat opting for something smaller and more manageable.

So.... I'm going to check into the forum more often and see what's new... and old.  Over the years, I've gained a little knowledge (knowledge that there is more I don't know that I do) and offer it to those who may need it.  I will also be asking questions of you since cruising these topics only affirm the above.
