All:

We had the masts out and painted everything with Awlgrip and replaced everything that looked shot which was everything. Problem is that my main spreaders are 4 3/4" wide and I can not find a spreader boot that fits that. The old ones were PVC and hard and brittle from 20 years in the sun. Pretty sure this boat when under a bridge during a hurricane so the rig was cobbled together from, I'm surmising, a bunch of rigging salvaged off other dismasted or sunk boats so none of it matches but it did survive 20 years with very little maintenance.

That said, does anyone know of a source for spreader boots that will cover something as wide as 4 3/4"?

How about something home made? And why not? Everything else is a prototype.

I swear I should just make multiples of everything we make for the boat because I'm sure that everyone needs one of these left handed, metric threaded doo flangies at some point.

I'm tackling the sea hood over the worn out main hatch in the not too distant future unless someone has the left over form from their sea hood project. The hood comes first, then a fairing over that a couple inches high to stop water cascading over the coach house roof then a dodger on top of that. By that time, of course, I'll have a live in nurse because I'll be too old to sail the boat by myself and the length of the project will have alienated any relationships I ever had.

Whoops! venting.

we have a smooth stainless strap around the tips of the spreaders and stay. Never have had boots since we purchased the boat. You could make some out of pvc pipe. cut and heat to bend around tip, then sand all edges smooth. Or go hi tech and get some kydex and fabricate some. cut and heat and bend :)
