Rope Stropped Blocks
by Derek Waters dgw@direct.ca Building a small gaff-rigged yawl, we needed lots of blocks. I was able to find good ones, or cheap ones. Cost was an incentive, but the 'plasticy' look of the commercial products was as big a factor for me.
Hah.... lol.. I just saw that a couple days ago and copied the entire article and all pictures to my hard drive for use later.. 🙂 Pretty cool huh 🙂
It is almost as easy or maybe easier to build stainless blocks with the wood cheeks on them like the ones that came on many of our boats. You just take a length of stainless flatbar and bend it into a U shape. Insert block and pin and then cover the outsides with wood 🙂
I will have to find some pictures of how it is done sometime. I have heard it described many times. even how to turn your own sheaves out of delrin or nylon blocks.
