I am not sure what you are referring to - On my boat, the staysail stay was originally attached to a SS eye bolt that extended thru the bow sprit, thru the deck and secured with a backing plate in the dhain locker.  Is that the function of the U bolt that you are revering to??

likewise here I have the eye bolt on valkyr.

Scotty :) quit having such a good time on the water and send us a picture :) lol

I think Scotty and family trucked their boat down to georgia? and put her in the water there and are off on a winter caribean vacation. Wish I was.
