I will be removing my original vintage 1979 vinyl headliner in sections over the next year. It is in very good condition mostly, if you want it, I will ship it out. Just don't request onsies-twosies, I prefer to ship entire sections. Go retro back to vinyl, you know you wanna!
I haven't started pulling it down yet, so plenty of time to request a section now. Request pics if you want. Send me an email here.
🙂 fun job... We have original vinyl up and it actually does a good job. It seems to do a decent job of insulation with the air gap behind it. However we have a mid to long term project planned to go to hard panels to make accessing deck hardware easier in the future as well as running wiring and other stuff. Because of several repairs and additions to the boat on deck we have had to slit and or pull down corners of existing panels to get to nuts on bolts etc.. inside.
I am pulling down some sections of the headliner now. It is in good/ok condition so if anyone wants it let me know. This includes the plastic trim staple/tab thingie as well.
When I pulled it down, the plywood edging, which the vinyl is stapled to, completely fell apart or disintegrated from moisture/rot. All of the staples were heavily corroded and snapped in half. The vinyl itself looks basically fine though. The miracle of plastics 8-D
we have had to take down a corner here or there on our boat to access stuff and it has been a cast iron you know what!!! ours is still attached to the furring strips really well and it is damaging the plastic strips that hold the vinyl pulling it apart as well as the edges of the vinyl. We aren't that worried about it as the plan is to go to some hard panels that are easy to remove to access deck hardware.

I may be intrested in your headliner, depending on the color. I have one section that needs replacement. I don't know if DE used only one headliner, but mine is an off white with shades of grey. I have a 1980 DE45. If you could email a picture to jgfloans@pacbell.net I would appreciate it. Let me know how much you are asking. Thanks
