Hi:

The emergency tiller arrangement that came with my DE 38 is a pritty a poor design.    I think that the former owner put it together and I am sure that it would not hold up under a real load.

Did the DEs  come equipped with an emergency tiller as standard or an accessory or are they all owner designed/fabricated.

I am planning designing and fabricatiing a new one and would appreciate description/pics or drawings of other emergency tillers.

Thanks,

Carmine

Ditto for the DE45.  No emergency tiller on board when I bought Prelude in 1984.  Anyone have a picture, a sketch or description?

I'd like to get an emergency tiller for DE32.  Any info would be great.

Hmm... I'm interested also..

I will have to check in the cockpit lockers. For some reason I think I remember being told there was one in there.. Or maybe they just pointed out the fitting on deck that covers where it would connect.

I have an emergancy tiller on my DE 32, it is 1"x1" solid steel welded to a cylindrical peice that fits into the hole on my aft deck. a notch has been taken out of the cylindrical part that fits right into my rudder fitting below deck. Ive used it once just to see if it worked. it just clears the wheel and actuall makes the wheel spin. probbly in a heavy sea it would require some muscle to make the boat behave but I am quite sure the tiller itself would stand up to about anything.
