Did a non-DownEaster sailboat delivery from Marathon, FL to Halifax, Nova Scotia and my (back-up) Dual XGPS300 (satellite) GPS cradle for iPod Touch saved the day when the boat's Raymarine computerized navigation system died in the middle of the night.

The gizmos (that depend on the iPod model ~ mine requires the XGPS300) have been discontinued by the manufacturer but may still be found for sale online as are the Dual cradles for iPhone.

The downside ~ the Dual may only be in GPS or Battery (charge) mode but not both – thereby draining the battery when in use.

Similar cradles that do charge when in use are made by Magellan and TomTom.
