I recently purchased and sailed Dolphin, a DE 32 from Everett Washington up to my home in Homer, Alaska.

What can anyone tell me about the trail boards on the DEs?

What are they made of?

The port trail boards are cracked, they look like some plaster-like product. How can they be repaired>

Has anyone replaced them for nice teak or gold inlay?

If replacing with wood I think I would steam a plank and fasten it in place to harden in the correct shape.

Then pull back off and use a rubber mask with the pattern wanted cut in it and then sand blast the board.. Then seal with a penetrating epoxy, paint and then clear coat over that.

We have  issues with ours also.. however it is very far down on the list of projects..

Please let us know what you end up doing 🙂

Thanks, Scott. Those are good suggestions. I was hoping someone had already replaced and had a pattern, location where one was fabricated, or step-by-step photo directions.

Did I ask for too much?

As far as I know there is no pattern or vendor that makes these. I am sure there are craftsmen around that can custom make them if you ask around.. I would expect  to pay a penny or two for that route though.
