Ok I think this will do it. The old forums deleted some of the posts in the database so I have changed the forum software to something a little more elaborate and better supported.

I recovered some of the lost posts and am going to put them in bulk into this post. Just cut and past your old post out of here and put a new post authored by out back out on the forums. I'm glad this happened now instead of a few weeks or months from now when it would have been an utter nightmare to even try and recover old content.

I would like to welcome any owners of Downeaster Yachts or people interested in them to the forums. Feel free to post…

Hey Scott i just got regestered so i thought i would try to post a pictures.   This is right after i pulled her off the ground [Image Can Not Be Found]  [Image Can Not Be Found]  [Image Can Not Be Found]  Interior [Image Can Not Be Found]  Safely back at the dock [Image Can Not Be Found]  The boat i work on here in Destin  s/v Blackbeard II [Image Can Not Be Found]

Chandler, other than she looks a bit naked with the stick down Discovery doesn't look to bad.. what all do you have to do to her to get her up to speed?

I just changed the permissions on commenting on posts and pages on the website. To make it a bit harder for spammers to spam the website I changed it so that you have to be registered to post comments. I'm going to keep it like this for a bit and see how it goes. It will just depend on how this works out. I am open to suggestions on how to set this up to make it a place that people will want to use and come back to. I am tickled pink with the response so far. I have had about 4 people that are new owners of DE38's that contacted me yesterday.  I also changed the layout of the forums so that they take up the full width of the page rather than living between the sidebars. I noticed that Chandler's pictures of his boat on the forum were not displaying correctly with the sidebars there. This is now fixed with the sidebars gone.

We are heading to Valkyr this evening to spend the night..   We are going to try some special laminate paint on one of the laminated counter tops to see what we think of a color change from the original brown laminate to an ivory color.  We were looking at replacing the laminate with a lighter laminate but this paint looks pretty good on the demo we saw at home depot and only cost $20 for enough that we should be able to do all the laminate surfaces in the boat with it. We figure that since we planned on replacing the laminate anyway that there is no downside to spending $20 dollars to test out just painting it with this new product.  We will let everyone know how it turns out.   Scott

Well these pictures do not cover the starboard bow rail which was ripped off by the bowsprit being pulled off to starboard. Here is a rough list of what all has to be done(i do have many more upgrades planned for her. -Fiberglass work topside(bow rail/reattach bowsprit, all rails need to be reglassed) -All wood topside is to be replaced -The mast is not the right one….it is a keel stepped at aprox. 50 feet with rigging to aprox. 43' so really its all about getting the mast cut to the right length to use the existing standing rigging. -I have to find a boom long enough…this one is only 11' or so -Alot of cleaning lol -find sails    I just got the engine running- it is a 1998 yanmar 3jh and it runs extremely well and the boat moves good. As i go through it and throw all the junk away i keep finding all kinds of things that go to the boat……basicly everything is there besides sails and some fiberglass. Not too shabby for 1000$ right?  -Chandler

Hello,  I just posted on the YUKU board but I thought I would make a posting here as well. I have the old site backed up on my drive. Got by FTP from the old server once the previous admin gave me the password. He's out cruising the pacific, which is why the old site went belly up. All the files are still there though. Pictures, how-to's etc. I'm not sure how the old boat registration system worked, but the files are there as well. Be happy to donate them and help out however I can.  Later,  Eric  S/V Argyle DE38 #40 stanleyea at yahoo dot com

Hello!  My name is Erick from Orlando, FL.  I recently purchased a 1975 DE 38 Cutter, "Windsong", which is still at the previous owners dock in Inglis, FL.  I am in the process of getting the engine and some other systems in shape enough to take it down the coast so that I can haul her to do a big overhaul.    My boat blog: http://erickswanderlustblog.bl.....;  http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3256/3587931704_7f809bbc3e.jpgImage Enlarger

Eric, Glad you found us here. I would love to get a copy of what you have. I got the contents of one of the sites from Gerry a couple of days ago and am still trying to sort and get some of it up here on the website. I will probably work on that some today if I can find the time. I have the old boat registry up at [url]http://downeasteryachts.com/info-index/downeaster-owners-registry[/url] It is just a static page right now though with the old data on it from the last time that copy of it was updated. I am trying to figure out something that people can update themselves to keep it current but haven't figured that out yet. If you have something that does that I would love to see it. The current website is database driven and runs on top of a mysql database so it should be possible to do this. Actually it is probably pretty easy to do stand alone. I am trying to integrate it with the wordpress software that is driving the website and forum. If you can email the data to me at scott@scottcarle.com I will take a look and put it up as I get time to do so. Scott S/V Valkyr DE38 #212
