i'm interested in replacing the original hatches on my 38.  anyone know a manufacturer that produces the sizes appropriate, or a custom manufacturer to make them to fit?

Other than going to a modern hatch from lewmar or bomar which you can just measure the opening dimensions and match one up then I think you are going to have to custom build them. The forward hatch doesn't look that difficult to build yourself. Actually the midships skylight doesn't look impossible either if you use the pieces of the old one as a template. I love the looks of the midships skylight but am not terribly impressed by its ability to keep lots of water out of the boat. It seems to me to be an inherently complex design with the frame and fold up wings with glass panes inset down in them.

We are soon to build replacement drop boards out of some clear 1/2 inch acrylic that I was given. I have even been thinking about how I would rebuild the top sliding hatch with a big acrylic panel in it. I am a huge fan of lots of light to open up the interior.
