I put one of the rubberized paints on my decks last year.. it has sat unused for and uncleaned now for about 9 months and is all mildewed up.. going to get down there and clean her off in the next month or so.. will let you know how that goes. 🙂 feels great on the feet and knees…. kind of a rubbery give to it or at least it was newly painted. 60 bucks a gallon or thereabouts. Real easy to go on.. I basically ran 50 grit on the RO Sander to scuff the existing nonskid and just cleaned and painted it directly over the nonskid.
acrytech.com is the website I got it from. I bought a 5 gallon bucket and it is enough to do the entire topside decks.
It felt a little less grippy when wet than the old sand nonskid to be honest. However it's hard to beat sand for nonskid.. basically walking on sandpaper. I also lost a lot of skin to that same nonskid.. This is a lighter color and is much cooler to the feet in the sun.. It made a huge difference down below. If I got the sand color or cream... something like that. If going for straight up cool I would go for the white. It will show stains a lot more though and need to be cleaned more often. The light tan/sand/cream that I got was still warm in the sun.. however I could walk bare footed on it on a hot day no issues. Old paint nonskid would burn my feet. I did notice one or two places that it is peeling up on the edge.. maybe the size of a dime.. I am so far calling that an issue with surface prep and or me pulling the tape either to late or to early without cutting it with a razor to make sure the tape didn't pull it up. Other than those two small places I haven't noticed any issues.
I used Interlux Perfection for the white areas. It turned out really great, but if I had to do it over again I may have gone with a 1-part paint like Brightsides.
For the non-skid I used Kiwigrip, have nothing but great things to say about it.
A small sample of both paints, the cream is the kiwigrip, the white is the Perfection:
You do really nice work Eric..
I painted over some of the white trim areas such as on the hatches like yours there. Two reasons. One it was easier 🙂 but primarily that I wanted to improve traction. If an area wasn't needed for drainage such as the channels on the side decks or other places to let water smoothly flow to the scuppers then I painted over it with non skid. Not worried so much about big water like waves or such but just rain so that small areas on deck don't hold water puddles.
