To fellow DE38 owners, where does your propane locker drain out of the boat?  The thru-hull (above water line) for mine is below the transom with a line running from the propane locker all the way back there.  I've considered filling it in and adding a thru-hull to the side of the boat next to the propane locker.  Does anyone else have a set up like this or are they all flowing out the back of the boat?

DE38 Eclipse propane locker drain is similar to your description ... I recently replaced the hose and hardware with those of a larger diameter. We'll see if it helps. Am considering attaching some form of weather-stripping to the underside of the locker lid.

How timely 🙂

I have been considering upgrading the line size in the propane locker and also adding some weatherstripping under the lid to slow down the ingress of water. We have had ours clog and flood more than once 🙁 I don't understand why they didn't design it like the aft lazerette doors behind the helm that are self draining into the footwell.

Ours also exits the transom. 🙂 i think it is the safest place to have it exit. Out the side of the boat would be more likely to take on water if heeled over much.

you will have to let us know how the weather stripping works for you.

I have put a larger diameter pipe and joined it into my deck drain piping. I don't use gas so it's only for getting rid of the water that gets in. I'll take some photos and post shortly.

I used the original gas locker stern outlet for a second electric bilge pump.(Now I have one float switch electric and one manual electric 1500gph plus a third manual Whale bilge pump). Call me paranoid but I don't like water coming in faster than I can get it out.

I've also just replaced the cutlass bearing and installed a new PSS shaft seal and will post links to youtube soon.

All the best,

Dave
