I am contemplating removing the post and I think it's really for show more than structural. Can anyone tell me if they know. Or have taken it out without any negative side effects?

Thanks

There are several pictures of DE's without the post or with the post moved back to the corner of the sink. I don't think it is a make or break thing. However There are also reports of DE's that have replaced the bows in the overhead that have put curve back into the decks where it had become a bit more concave than it was supposed to. So no definitive answer. I don't think the boat will break in half if you removed it. However I would hazard that it does give some support. What you could do is measure the height with the post in right there and then remove it and keep an eye out for a change in height. If you start to see a major deviation then maybe  replace the post or beef up the overhead bows .

I guess I'll leave it for now. It's a good grab bar, if nothing else. I took the table out and that really opens up the space. Now I just need to conjure up something that can act as a table, but be out of the way most of the time. Can't do the fold down because that where the 32" inch LED is going.

we took the table out a year and a half ago and haven't missed it much. I do intend to build a fold down at some point but not yet.
