Jerry got hold of me to ask for help finding the owners of this boat.  Anyone with information that might help in this endevor please contact me or just post it here and I will get it to him. Thank you.

Here is the all the information we have that he sent me.

Hi Mr Carle

I'm writing to convey they status of Downeaster 381 Hull 79...
So as of today/currently washed ashore/beached hard at Navel Air Station North Island, Coronado Ca. pacific beach shore in front of the Navy Lodge.

she was clearly a documented vessel, her document number board is missing, as well as her name & home port stern boards? clearly the owners are trying to conceal their identity as the navy is actively looking for them to resolve their abandoned vessel on the navy's base issue.

Hull 79 I was told was anchored outside San Diego Bay inlet prior to beginning of 2018, but during first week 2018 (Jan 6/7) during the king tide of the year, a low pressure system came thru rather hard, extremely strong east south easterly which blew many boats onto their Lee shores of navy bases/coastie bases facing Pacific Ocean as well as boats n Bay were blown onto lee shore of San Diego mainland.

Hull 79 scheduled to be broken up and hauled away in pieces in end dumps...clearly the owners have abandoned her and navy can't let her sit in the restricted area as the safety liability she is...

Any help identifying/contacting owner would be appreciated sir.

Regards
Jerry S Ecklund

Slight update

Thank you Mr Carle for your reply, hope my explanation helps you and Downeaster community understand fate of Downeaster 381 hull 79...

It's speculated that hull 79 had been changing hands a few times legally or illegally as clearly recently she'd been let go by current master/commander/skipper/Capt who wasn't keeping her up as previous owners had? Absolutely she isn't a derelict actually quite well preserved from such a great build like most downeasters...

Breaks my heart, hate to see the navy break her up, like the westsails that inspired them downeasters are such stout boats...my old neighbor in marathon Florida sailed a Downeaster 32 around the world. Forget his last name but his name is Gill from Minneapolis Mn, where I was born also and on his vessels stern boards he did the illegal of abbreviating Minneapolis to MPLS which only people from Minneapolis seemingly know, how he knew I was a local when I made issue of that...

Regards
To bad someone can't claim her and fix her up. Not sure what the legalitys would be on that.

There's a DE38 here that they've been trying to sell forever.  Was in the Shelter Island Mooring field for the longest time, I guess she did break free at some point and run into the beach but they saved her.

My father in law has talked to the broker twice about it, but never pulled the trigger.  I wonder if it's the same boat.

If so see if your dad would be willing to talk to Mr Ecklund as they are trying to track down who owns the boat now, maybe your dad knows at least the last owner or someone that does know. Wonder how fast they could declare it abandoned and then give it to someone that would haul it off. Might be a great way to get a DE cheap. Sounds like it would need a lot of refurbishment but also as if it is in pretty good shape over all? However all the details I know are in the above post so it really is limited info.

Well I can update this topic. Owner was found, he was insured just hard to get ahold of. Turns out vandals ripped name plates off after she went to shore. She was inspected after being lifted off the beach and found sea Worthy still. DE 79s owner sold her off after that. New owner is bit of a dork. I know I, errr I mean he the new owner will post profile in the boat section.

Life's just a game. Some of us know the rules better though.
