I have just started to varnish my cap rai last weekendl got 3 coats so far have 3 more to go.
Im lucky that the DIY yard I'm in lets me use thier 15 ft walk boards. So while I was up prepping and sanding the Cap rails I sanded the Stripe under the cap rail ready for paint
It definitly is paint not gel coat (well on mine it is) I sanded it with a mouse sander and will be painting it after the last coat of varnish goes on the caprail.
I have found a good paint I've been reading about... Rustoleum Marine paint that is getting good reviews.
My stripe is Hunter Green and it is one of the Rustoleum colors..the best thing about this paint is the price
2 qts for $29.99 cant be beat. Being a paint contractor for many years I am using tools that I use in my business such as a
plastic masker that will be invaluable for protecting the gel coat below. I will take pictures I think will be helpfull.
While in the process of getting the caprail ready for Varnish I removed all of the old caulk from underneath with a sash tool
I found this tool perfect for getting right underneath the caprail to remove all old residue and crap that had accumulated there.
I plan on painting at least 2 coats of Hunter green on the stripe.
