Aloha all, new here and was wondering if anyone on this forum has performed the series of repairs required to fix the bulkhead between the head and dinette area on the DE38?
Currently looking at buying a DE38 in Honolulu that was used for the past dozen or so years as an office/garage by a local surveyor.
The bulkhead has been compromised by water & termites resulting in a little sag in the deck and some delam spots.
Trying to scope out this aspect of the restoration and any insight as to time or cost would be greatly appreciated.
Mahalo,
sounds like a project. If your handy with this kind of thing I would think it is a mild difficulty project from a structural standpoint. Doing it to a factory cosmetic standard would be a bit harder in my opionion, but then I am more the rough carpenter than a finish carpenter so my view might be a bit skewed.
I'll be tackling this very project in the next few months. I will write all about it for the website and my blog. I just hauled out and once I finish grinding off the bottom to dry out I'll turn my attention to the interior and deck. I have a badly rotten main bulkhead that I plan on replacing, along with rotten core under the mast and a replacement of the compression post. Basically re-doing the whole boat but these are the main problem areas of the cabin that actually need to be replaced, not just refinished.
