Just thought I'd pass along my amazing score for those of you who were kicking around the idea of installing pinrails on your DE – or for those who want to beef up what they already have.
I ordered these last week expecting the worst (marketed as file handles) but when I opened the box today I was JUBILANT!!! These will make bitchin' belaying pins![Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found][Image Can Not Be Found]
They're a bit over 6" long and an 1.5" in diameter with a nice, ergonomic taper. Solid, beefy but relatively light. The hole is just shy of 9/16" and 3.75" deep. I'm going to get some 1/2" hardwood dowels and epoxy them in before giving these babies a light sand & a good oiling – then it's just a matter of throwing together some pinrails. They come in sets of 12 for $18 – which is an amazing deal for these babies, even with $15 s&h. I only need 8 but it'll be nice to have extra to throw at boarding pirates.
I'll post pics when I've got them tied up to the shrouds![Image Can Not Be Found]
I'll attempt to paste the ebay link (no affiliation with the seller):
