Our old boat (Downeast 38) seems to have a few tricks left in her. We participated in the San Diego Parade of Lights and took home the trophy for best in her class: Best of Sail (33 - 45'). The video shows what she looked like decorated for the parade. It was certainly a lot of work, and we were preparing at the dock for at least a month ahead. It took the work of 16 of our friends to pull it off and our slip neighbors were throughly confused as we were gluing PVC pipes together and binding old painter's sheeting to iceberg shaped panels. I got sick with a pretty nasty cold a few days before the parade.
Fun, in spite of sickness, drunkenness (not me I was driving the boat), many many unlit boats, and and running aground we still went home with something. I'm not sure I'd do it again as stressful as it was, but was it fun.
Here's a video of us passing by from the shore. I didn't take the video, but you can pretty easily pick out the Downeast Cutter 38': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_2pTazXEts#t=18m50s
🙂 nice....
We decorated Valkyr the last year we lived on her. It was a lot of work. Had some of the led rolls of lights run up the rigging like she was a Christmas tree. Everyone in the harbor thought it was cool when we set it to pulse to the music 🙂 However it was a pain going up and one coming down 🙂 surprisingly even with led's it drew a lot of power. There were a lot of them and they were some of the more powerful ones.
