So two days ago I welded up a framework to hold the 700watt microwave we have on the boat. It has been sitting on the port side shelf over the settee at the aft most end of the shelf. It has worked ok there but has to have a spacer under it so the door can open and it just took up a lot of space I wanted to use for something else.

The new location is under the small cabinet that hangs over  the sinks. I used a 1inch ID 1/8 inch wall thickness stainless pipe mounted on a spring loaded bolt latch at teh bottom and a 1/2 inch solid stainless pin welded to mount bolted to one of the ceiling bows. The bottom one is through bolted to the small bulkhead between the galley and saloon. The frame work holding the microwave is made out of 3/4 inch stainless angle with 1/8 inch solid stainless bar supporting the angle. All of it is welded to the vertical pipe.

Now the microwave sits about 1 1/2 inches under the cabinet on the ceiling if facing into the galley or just in front of the aft large fixed cabin window on portside  and facing into the saloon if it is rotated out into the salon. This allows  you to use it either in the galley or the salon. The rack weighs about 10 lbs I would guess.

I wasn't terribly happy with my welding. I'm pretty rusty. However it works and doesn't look to bad. I do need to add one more support from the bottom ti brace the outer corner diagonally across from the vertical pipe that it pivots on. The vertical pipe is welded to the rectangular frame on the corner of the frame and then the 1/8th rod runs down to the two corners that are 90 degrees from each other. I will post pictures soon. 🙂 I still need to strap the microwave to the platform and create a latch tie down system to keep it from swinging other than when we want to face it into the salon or galley respectively.
