Registration Requirements
Due to the high volume of spam registrations I have had to go to a moderator approved signup requirement. This means that you register and I will approve the registration sometime in later that day to a few days later depending on when I can get to it. I hate to do this as it is an inconvenience to you and to me but we are now getting 40 to 50 spam registrations that are getting through the automated systems for stopping them for every legitimate new user. This has created a huge amount of work for me trying to sort out the bad from the good registrations as well as deleting spam posts on the forums every week or so. I have made the "About Yourself" field of the registration process manditory now. Please put in a bit about yourself and your boat or desire for a downeaster etc. This is to help me sort out the idiots trying to spam the website from legitimate users. I figure a legitimate user will have something interesting and on topic to say that most spammers wouldn't have a clue about :) There has also been some problems with people registering with user names such as "j doe" or "john doe", any name with a space in it seems to cause a problem with logging in with that user name. To avoid having problems in the registration process please pick a name such as "jdoe" or "johndoe" where the there is no spaces used in the user name. You will also note that we have included a numerical and a pictographic captcha requirement for registering. We have done this to slightly enhance the security of the site from spammers. If you have any other problems registering on the site please use the comment form on the Contact page to let us know your having a problem and we will work with you to resolve the problem. You are encouraged to use the site often. There are forums available for you to ask questions of other downeaster owners as well as share information and knowledge that you have. We also welcome you to hang out and just socialize in the forums on the appropriate sections with other owners. It doesn't have to all be serious. We can have fun here to.
