Most countries you can't buy them anymore though I have heard that some places you can.. forget where though, which isn't much help for you unfortunately

I ran into the 4 strokes suck for power issue on my beneteau years ago. I had a johnson 4hp 2stroke that I replaced with a tohatsu 6hp 4stroke. I lost 25% of my power I was used to. Had a big blowout with tohatsu that I lost. Argued that they misrepresented the engine. I was rated 6 hp at almost 6000 rpm and it had trouble hitting 4000 rpm with any prop tohatsu made on anything from a dingy to a 23 ft sailboat. Tested a second engine of the same line and got the same results so I don't believe it was a lemon.

Other than not really being 6hp it was reliable and sipped fuel compared to the old engine.

I'm hunting for that rare, elusive 9.9 or 15 hp, 2 stroke outboard. I'm not married to any specific name but it would be great if the seller has had great success with that name.

I'm told they're still sold in Canada (2 strokes) but finding one here is tough and the 4 strokes are that much heavier that I'm not sure they're worth getting up on a plane in my little 8' Avon RIB.

Right now we have a 6 hp 4 stroke which I think is going to severely limit the explorations we're planning up rivers, etc. when the time comes because it doesn't come close to planing the boat.
