Of course after getting married we did a bit of a honeymoon and the second part of that was spent on the boat. After a fitful night snatching at the anchor chain the weather improved and we got some fine sailing in, anchoring at a few different locations over the next few days.

Just so people don't get too jealous rest assured that I've now built up a litany of tasks to get done, ranging from new non skid decks to a new shower sump. Its also about time we got the standing rigging checked and one of the chain plates has a crack or two in it…..

nope not your fault. for some reason the link was to the wrong name.. It hasn't been working for better than a year or two the best I can tell :(.. glad I posted it and someone had a problem.. It is fixed now.. I edited the above post and put the correct link in. Some of the video in that is also in the second video but I think it is better done in the new one. I'm finding that the bigger my websites get and the more complex that I am getting more broken links and other erros over time. I guess it is the nature of the beast.

Nice!

we are totally jealous. It has been way to long since we have been sailing..To much working on the boat vs sailing the boat.

here is a link though to a video we took in the past that has some valkyr sailing footage in it. The sailing footage is toward the middle to end of the video.. I won't ask you to sit through the whole thing 🙂 it's about 14 minutes long and was for a pirate race/party weekend we have near here every October. This was one of the best days sailing. with winds just aft of the starboard beam at 20 to 25 knots. We were sailing with full sail running about 8 to 9 knots all day in about 4 feet of swell.. One of those sailing days that just makes you smile till your face hurts.

http://www.scottcarle.com/word.....p_0003.wmv

second video about valkyr that I made for the prior owner before we bought her.

http://www.scottcarle.com/word.....r_0004.wmv

I said 20 to 25 knots above but in the first video it says 15 to 20 knots.. I would belive the video.... so 15 to 20 knots in the above video. I do remember that we hit 9.5 kts once or twice and were doing a solid 8 knots for a lot of the time. 🙂 I was pretty happy with the performance. the video was before we owned the boat by about a year or so.

I like reading about peoples recent sailing experiences. Given I had a good one at the weekend I thought I might share it. Janet and I are getting married this weekend and instead of a traditional stag-do I went off in the boat for a few days with my brother and some close friends. Some of the trip was spent getting people used to the boat, or sailing in general but we also did a 35nm loop around one of the Coronado islands, getting there with the spinnaker up and the knotmeter running between 7 and 8 knots the whole way. This was only the third time that we'd used the spinnaker and it was certainly the best experience I've had with it, screaming (in a Downeasterly sort of way) along on a deep broad reach.

Some pictures can be found here: http://svonelove.blogspot.com/.....iling.html

And this is a little video of the trip:

Anyway the trip was a good one - I'd love to hear about other's experiences to keep the inspiration rolling until the next time we take One Love out!
