I have never had valkyr out of the water for long but that keel is massive. Maybe a minimum of 18 inch to 2 ft thick or more from the bottom of the keel to the upper bilge floor. The bilge under the engine on the other hand has a much thinner floor between it and the water 🙂 One way or the other I have never seen a bit of deformation either locally where the boat has sat on blocks or over the length of the boat when out of the water.. lol or in the water for that matter.

I thought I read somewhere, maybe on a Westsail forum, that having a strong brace under the bow is a really good idea for boats like ours, and that sometimes yards skip placing them in that position. But I don't know for sure either way.

Thanks. I'm thinking about putting my boat on the hard in San Carlos for 8 months of the year. It's hot there but DE 38s are pretty tough.

I've been on the Hard for 2 years now..... The DE38's are solid, with a great keel.

I'm not having any issues.

Now years ago I had a wood hull Alberg that I wouldn't want to have on the hard for any length of time... but that's a different animal.

And Rick is right, Erick has been dry for longer than I .... His Blog is well worth looking at, loads of interesting stuff there.

We had lunch together one day, he's a great guy too.

I've heard certain boats don't do well sitting on the hard for too long. Does anyone know if keeping a DE 38 on the hard for 6 months or so would be detrimental to it ? Precautions to take?
