Martin,

It was about 7 years ago, so I don't think I have the number any longer. I'll take a look in my notebook when I get home.

There was some discussion about removing the after rail, which is the highest spot (surprisingly) when the boat was loaded. In fact, the yard charged me several hours of labor for rail removal when the boat was picked up. When it arrived however, the rail was in place, and the driver said it hadn't been necessary. I contacted the yard, and the guy said the time wasn't for the rail removal, but for "other stuff". I disputed the charge on my credit card, and ended up not having to pay it.

I made kind of a funny video last year (2102) when we launched, and there's video and a couple of stills of the boat on the trailer. Take a look at

It's not the long-haul flatbed, but a hydraulic trailer for local moves. You can see the driver measuring the height, but I haven't been able to stop the video to see what it was. By the way, I finished painting my house, and cleaning up the back yard, so it's not as bad a dump as it seems in the video!

Was that as is or did you have to take the pulpit or lifelines off?

I shipped Perelandra (DE38, 1975) from Santa Barbara to Massachusetts, on a lowboy flatbed trailer, and didn't need any over-height permits. I did need over width...

I store the boat in my backyard, and on a hydraulic trailer I think the height is less than 12', although it looks higher from the ground.

Good luck!

I am thinking of moving Sea Pirate to Texas overland. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I am getting estimates right now. I am unsure about the size of a downeaster 38 from the bottom of the keel to the top of the Cabin top.

Has anyone ever shipped a Downeaster 38 ?

I am just hoping it is not too high for the overpasses.

any info greatly appreciated.
