not to bad then... furler just sounds like bad luck in dropping it in a non optimal situation.

I still have to do my ameron repair of my fuel tank 🙁 I put a small temp tank in to run the engine and havent needed more than it holds yet.. no long trips or anything for us 🙂

We pulled a vented propane heater out that worked great when it worked.. couldn't get it to light most of the time though... I plan on building my own wood burning stove.. small one designed around the rocket stove effect. Wish I could afford one of the Kimberly Stoves.. that is the cadilac version. 🙂 hmm. wonder if you could design it as a multi fuel to handle wood, coal, charcoal. diesel and even a propane insert if you wanted. I will have to play with it.

I bent the hell out of my furler extrusion when I had to replace my headstay at Christmas Island. There was no way to get into the lagoon and no dock, so I had to lower the whole furling assembly in a roadstead anchorage with a 4-6' swell running. Not fun. I've got three new extrusion segments waiting for me at my buddies house in Honolulu. It shouldn't be too big an ordeal replace them.

After that I have to verify that my fuel tank fix worked. After 9 years and many sea miles, my paint job on the inside of the diesel tanks developed a leak while I was bashing to windward through the NE trades. I drained the tank and repainted with Ameron before I left Hawaii. When I go back I need to pressure test the tanks an make sure it's sealed.

Finally I need to get my diesel heater up and running. I haven't used it since the Oregon coast back in 2006. Unfortunately I'll be getting back into a part of the world where it's going to be necessary 8 months out of the year.

Besides that it's just provisioning, replacing some chafed lines, little projects, shaking down the furler and saying goodbye to my Hawaii friends,

What kinds of things do you see needing repairing after a hard voyage the most or that you think need reinforcing before the next one?

I'm going to be hanging in the PNW for at least a year or two. I've been too transient for too long. I need some quality time with family and friends back home before I take off again. Bodhran could also use a bit of TLC. The passages from NZ back to Hawaii have been tough on her.

Hey Scott,

Congrats on the latest addition to your sailing family. Bodhran just sat through a scare in Honolulu as hurricanes Iselle and Julio passed her by. I had a friend looking after her for me. I probably have some minor scrapes from the fixed concrete dock she's lying against but no major damage. I'm just finishing up a job I've been doing in Ohio/Kentucky and will be back to Hawaii in a week. Then it'll be a week or so getting Bodhran back into passage shape before I set out for Seattle and the end of my 8+ year Pacific cruise.

Sadly we are still at the dock..... On the good side we have another beautiful daughter. 🙂 2 1/2 months old now.

I do indeed love my chest high lifelines that I run from pad eyes on the bowsprit, through D's lashed on the cap shrouds and then back to the stern pulpit. I normally don't tether in at sea and feel these lines provide enough safety for normal conditions. I run additional jack lines while on passage in case I do need to tether in. I use flat webbing running from the sampson posts to the jib sheet cleats along the side decks on either side.

I haven't but Jason of DE32 Bodhran recommends running them from for and aft to the shrouds at about chest high. You can tie them to the pulpit and pushpits or to the deck cleats. I have heard about doing it this way before.
