Truly sorry to hear of your loss, Scott. These are really nice sailboats. Could I ask if teak items could still be had? I was looking for the cabinet door to the equipment cabinet/nav station. Maybe sole pieces like ones around the companionway/galley, nav & head?

Worked a charm. I had my strong 6'5" son do the heavy lifting of the batteries on and off the boat, but did use the topping lift and winch to lower the new ones down the hatch.

Now to hook it all up and test before throwing the switch...

All the best

been hard but we are coming out the other side. I will take some of the money from selling parts of Valkyr and refurbish our small Beneteau F235 that lives on a trailer 🙂 It's a great boat to do weekends or mini vacations on and train my girls how to sail.

I have been away from this forum for several months and just now saw your post from April about the demise of Valkyr. What a terrible occurrence. Can't really believe that the insurance won't cover a large part of the loss.

I can't offer anything other than sincere condolences and best wishes for recovery of your own health and possible restoration of the boat.

John,

I still have to get the mast from where it was pulled off.

hard dodger isn't going anywhere quick... just the aluminum frame is 4+ grand... Figure I will ask that for frame, top and solar panels and such all together but that's still stiff as a lot of people aren't going to layout for a custom hard dodger. I'm scared to think what one that size would cost now. I would hate to work with anyone but the guy that built this one also.. he took my ideas and made them better and safer. He had worked for one of the big sport fishing boat companies. can't remember brand at moment but big name brand and he designed their fishing towers on their boats for many years so had a tremendous amount of experience doing that one thing. What he built me is tank strong, easy on and off if needed, and he curved this here and that there to enhance strength as well as make it more artistic.

If it doesn't sell in a year or so I will maybe drop the price. Actually I should list it on cruising world etc... the pad's/legs are articulated so that they will sit flush on any cabin regardless of curve or flat that is long and wide enough. It is large and we transported it on a 6 x 8 trailer. It kind of overhung it but with it lashed down it traveled really well. Two people can maneuver it. 4 could make it light work. Me and a friend both of us with bad backs got it off boat and over the seawall. that was hardest part. then shelped it another 200 ft to the trailer and got it on it and lashed down. same at other end to get it off trailer. Wasn't fun but mostly that was just because of how out of shape I am.

That is a tragic loss and I can only imagine how you feel.

I am gone for months at sea on ships and that has been a concern of mine.

I will not be back in the country until Oct. but have been looking at your hard dodger, mast rigging and sails. I feel like a vulture picking at your boat.

As I stated I am in no rush but you may be.

I will check now and then for your response.

Again, sorry for your loss and I sure hope your health returns.

So I think I am getting a few items with multiple people interested in them. If that is the case I will try to have a good rough idea of what shipping is and will start a new for sale page for that specific item with a minimum purchase price and then interested parties can bid on it. If no new bids after a week I will close it and arrange pickup or shipping with winner. I'm not sure how else to be fair to the members here if more than one of you want it. I will try to put up pictures of the V-Berth Hatch, Butterfly hatch, trailboards and Dropboard for main hatch This week , since those are the things people have mentioned so far. Right now off the top of my head those are also the most boat specific items I salvaged other than all the little bronze fittings from inside and most of the outside on the boat. I wasn't able to get everthing but I did get most of it.

I have the original bronze curtain rods and all fittings for the curtains over the galley chart table windows. it is some serious solid bronze hardware.

I have the bronze chain and hooks that hold up the open portholes,

Bronze deck pad eyes

bronze cleats

everything on the bowsprit including the manual windlass as well as the stainless pullpit. Actually its all still on the bowsprit. (bowsprit has some rot so I would not advise planning on using it.)

i pulled the lazerette hatches and the propane compartment hatch to get the bronze hardware but it is all intact at this point.

I did not get the main hatch other than the drop board.

I got the dingy davits minus the mounts on the hull that it sat down in.

I got the original 3 burner gas stove out... I plan on using that myself but if you throw enough money at me I will cry a tear or two and let you have it.

I pulled the stock 12 volt electrical panel and the 12volt panel.

on the 12 volt panel the last time I used it only one of the switches was nonfunctional.. actually it was that way when our family got valkyr 15+ years ago.

I did not get the chart table. It and the main hatch, dingy davit mounts, bronze fittings for whisker stays on hull are about the only things I wasn't able to get due to health at the end of salvaging stuff.

I did get 5 or 6 of the stainless poles for the saftey lines? sigh name not coming to me.

I did get the custom hard dodger off.... It will be the most expensive item I salvaged. the way it is designed it will adapt to just about any boat with enough room to put it on. the feet are articulating. However it is specifically spec'd to a downeaster. You can easy see under sitting at helm and easily see over it standing at the helm. It has full length hand holds safety rails on either side and a raised bar that the boom can be dropped to and lashed down to that protects the solar panels from boom accidentally hitting. i have it and the backing plates for inside. It currently still has the soft solar panels glued to the top about 325 watts worth as well as the distribution box they are all wired to underneath it. http://downeasteryachts.com/ar.....hives/3547

ok.. mentally wearing out even thinking about this 😉 lol... that should be enough to feed the sharks for the moment.

I'm really sorry to hear about your health & for the loss of Valkyr. I'm sure you must be heartbroken to not be able to save her. I have a DE32 that I'm just starting out with & I'd be interested in giving some of your parts a new life. I'd love it if you could email me a list of what you're selling once you have it together. I'm not sure if you could save any of the cushions but I know I need those if you have them. Also, just off the top of my head, I need a new forward hatch over the vberth (mine is cracked). I'm working on a budget so I'm not shopping for anything new right now but I'd love to help you out & rehome something from your boat.

I do have the hatch over the v-berth but will be asking a decent price for it. Still looking at what the market is for comparable used hatches. Don't have a list compiled yet but hope to in next month or two.

I can't imagine how hard all this must be. When you get to the point of going through your stuff I'm in desperate need of the hatch over the vee-berth, I might want the hatch over the main saloon depending on the style it is (mine is ok but I want a butterfly hatch or a regular one that's smoked instead of clear), I need several small teak handrails, I need a couple of small cabinet doors & some wood to close in the shelf behind my starboard berth. I want to build doors for the main hatch so I need teak & smoked lexan for that. I need screens for all my hatches & ports. Those are the things right off hand I would definitely be interested in. Please let me know when you have them available. If I'm close enough I'd be happy to come look at things in person.

Thanks!

I was able to salvage the forward hatch and the butterfly hatch over the salon as well as the hardware. The forward hatch is in very decent shape as it lived under a sunbrella cover. The butterfly hatch is very weather worn but was still functional. It is teak, glass and has the bronze protective bars over the glass. It has latches that hold frame to hatch and latches for both individual doors. I have a clear acrylic 1/2" or a little thicker? dropboard the size of the hatch opening also that we used... it is clear but scuffed from years of use. We are near Myrtle Beach, SC

Scott,

I feel bad for what you have to do. In 2019 I watched Dorian tear up the Bahamas and then sat staring across the gulfstream 90 miles from me deciding to cross or make a right turn. I was sure we were going to lose Paper Moon, what a bad sickening feeling that was. We were so lucky! The 4 ft. surge was bad enough.

Please, keep me 1st in mind for those trail boards. I really want them on Paper Moon. I could spend a few hours re-reviewing the post from the fellow who fabricated a set for his 40 footer he had a pretty detailed article documented and posted to the site how he did them. I could come up with a fabrication cost within 10/15% as a cost starting point. Unless you have a number mind.

 Where are you located?

I did salvage the trailboards.. They are a heavy construction of solid resin and fiberglass. Each one of them probably weighs 20 to 30lbs. One was cracked and broke in half on removal but it would be a simple thing to epoxy back together. 7 or 8 screws were holding them to the hull so once in place you should not have to worry about them cracking again or breaking. They are 4 or 5 ft long and about a ft wide by 1 to 1.5 inches thick. I am near Myrtle Beach SC. Pickup would be easiest cheapest as shipping would be very expensive. I estimate based on size and weight it could easily push toward 100 dollars. I don't have a shipping account so don't get very good shipping rates the rare times I need to do so. If you have one we could use it to ship it with if it would get you a better rate. I would also have to use a very reinforced box of some sort based on the construction of solid fiberglass resin with just some chopped fibers in it I could see the normal knocking around in shipping possibly allowing it to break in other places if someone put much bending pressure on it across the length.

How much were you thinking of, that it would be worth it to you, to get some factory made trailboards?
