Have you got any pictures of your project replacing the bowsprit 🙂 hint hint.. great topic for an article. I know that Bob with Eolian has done this also as well as one other boat that I know of. We could use as many first hand accounts of this as we can get with as many details for future reference.

I think the bowsprit was replaced or maybe removed and repainted on Valkyr a couple years ago but I don't know any details.. put on list of things to ask Angela about Valkyr 🙂

There's the bowsprit, the platform (wings on either side of the sprit, holds the anchor roller, more stable to stand on while mess'n with the foresail), and the tublar frame that bolts to the forward section and the platform. Typically the tublar frame is what is called the 'pulpit'.

Since you are talking about it being teak, then you're probably talking about either the sprit or the platform, unless you have some really unique and really cool custom teak rails mounted.

If it's the platform you are talking about, you could probably just get some new teak or something similar and fab a new one, or have it done by a woodworker, depending on your skill and desire to do the work. This is a pretty low stress job since it's not really structural. If what you make or have made looks pretty much like the original, then it will probably work out fine.

If it's the bowsprit you are talking about, then it's a much more involved problem. The bowsprit is a critical structural part of your rig, so you want to make sure you pick the right replacement. I had rot on the bowsprit so I replaced it. It was originally a laminate of three planks of mahogany. I replaced it with a single piece of old-growth douglas fir from the pacific northwest. I can get into more detail if the bowsprit is what you are looking at.

The pulpit (railing) on valkyr is stainless steel. Are you talking about the bowsprit? Sampson Posts? or cap rails? Those are the only wood I can think of at the bow?
