I have 2 Books.  One for just the engine, a Service Manual, and another that is called the "Operation & Maintenance Manual". 

The Service Manual mentions the Transmission but doesn't really talk about it.  The other talks a bout it, even thought the information is minimal, it does cover the areas you had questions about.

The Fluid specified is ATF type "F", without an additive called Moybdenum Sulphite ( or similar).

The Quantity is 1.3 Pints.

The dipstick is not to be screwed in when checking the level, and the fluid should come up to the top mark on the dipstick.

]]> Sat, 19 Apr 2014 20:52:53 -0400 Patrick Twohig on Transmission Problems http://downeasteryachts.com/forums/engines-and-such/transmission-problems#p2310 Engines and Such http://downeasteryachts.com/forums/engines-and-such/transmission-problems#p2310 So I went to take her out yesterday and I couldn't get the damned prop spinning.  After some fiddling, I found that the transmission's dipstick.  Only an inch or so of fluid was up the dipstick.  It was also the dreaded strawberry milk color, which isn't really surprising considering that the transmission was partially submerged in seawater before I bought the boat.  I've got the Universal 5432 engine with the Hurth transmission.

 

Any tips on how to fix that problem?  I've read that flushing and re-filling over several transmission fluid changes.  A full rebuild would be ideal, but will I need to do fiberglass work to get that transmission out of there?  The dipstick has no marking on it, how much fluid does the transmission take?  I can't seem to find that in the manual.
