Our refrigerator/freezer unit is dead behind the aft galley cabinatry
in the engine compartment. It does not like the engine compartment hot
at all. Just sitting at dock with a light on in the engine compartment
or the heat build up from the fridge unit and the current battery
charger can get it hot enough to be a problem. I am planning on putting
two solar vents in place of the rear ventalation cowls. I aslo have a
engine compartment exhast fan that is non operational right now. I will
be fixing it so that we can have some heavey duty air flow in there when
the engine is running. The solar vents will serve two pourposes.. first
is cooling the other is that it will make air flow be from inside the
cabin to the engine compartment and we will lose the slight scent of
engine and diesel in the galley area. I don't really mind but the wife
finds it fairly noticeable.

Even with the engine blower on (actually, it sucks) and companionway open, the Adler-B died … until 24 hours after the engine (Volvo MD40) was shut off.

Have since spliced a hose with its own dedicated 12v fan sucking (not blowing) air from around the reefer into the engine blower exhaust hose to vent the heat out of the port on-deck dorade... even if the engine is not running – so far, so good.
