Dear Scott,

Yes, I would be happy to detail my repower. The Peugeot Lehmann fit perfectly. We only had to cut out a shoebox sized rectangle in the silvery fireproof flashing

where the leading edge of the engine where the coolant reservoir was touching the ladder/engine room door. I had the best Diesel Engineer in MDR, and I did not

have to replace my propeller, but of course pitch was adjusted, the shaft and overall alignment checked and triple checked. Fuel consumption is of course more,

but with diesel, I don't even give it much thought, but I do a fair amount of harbor tours (love to show off the DownEaster), and we do motorsail a bit...We found the

engine in a Norseman 447 that was being sold and the new owner wanted a brand new engine in it, so we got the engine for $600 with only 160 hours on it, it was

a 1984, but after pulling it all apart, new wiring, new starter, all new hoses, and the repower install the total job came to roughly $6000. So very happy though...

The other job I really need to do is get bow and stern pulpits put on as the old ones had been completely removed, as well as the stanchions and lifelines...

All for now.

Best in DownEastering,

I got an email from John Sheehan of DE38 s/v Oyster and in the message he mentioned he replaced the Ferryman 24HP with a Peugeot
Lehmann 61 HP. This sounds like one of the most powerful engines I have heard of anyone putting into a DE38 yet. I have asked him to if he is willing provide some more details on the re-power and his current performance and general happiness with the new engine.
