Yep... wish i could replace the bowsprit just as a upgrade to a aluminum or stainless. I could do the work myself if stainless but would rather have the lighter aluminum. Though to be honest with only 150ish feet of chain in the anchor locker and no longer having the holding tank in the bow we ride real high at the bow comparatively. I'm not sure that dropping more weight up there would be a good thing balance wise.

Sadly time and finances don't allow for that project.

Scott,

Thanks for the info. That is what I was hoping I could do as suggested tilt the prop as it is being removed and it will clear. With the end of the shaft being tapered I should be able to do it. That project is coming up soon and I want to have an idea what to expect. First I have to remove the bowsprit and assess the condition look for any rot. Not looking forward to that.

No not stupid at all. I saw it when you posted but since I don't have a DE32 but a DE38, I couldn't authoritatively answer. On my boat you absolutely can put the prop on and off. You have to kind of tilt and wiggle it on and off as the clearance is minimal but I have done it at least 5 times over the years. If for some reason it doesn't work for you the easiest thing to do might be to uncouple the engine from the shaft and see if you can slide the shaft forward a little bit to get that clearance. I know that people have done this and even removed and replaced the shaft in the water by jacking the rear of the engine up so the shaft will slide under it forward. Scary but it has been done.

maybe the hole in your prop is a little longer than normal? that would suck. However I don't think mine quite clears if it try to do it straight off and then slide sideways. I have to sorta put it between the rudder and shaft at an angle and then once the lip of the hole goes over the shaft I can rotate it straight and slide it all the way on. I think it is less than a few millimeters or at most a centimeter difference so it is easy to do for me. Again I don't have a DE32 though.

Was this a stupid question? On my DE 32 the end of the prop shaft is closer to the edge of the rudder than the width of the prop. This seems unlikely that this was the original design and the rudder needed to to be removed so asking if there is something I am missing.

New to the DE website and I have really appreciated reading all of the post from everyone.

My first question is: on a DE32 will I need to remove the rudder to remove the prop?

I am changing from a 2 blade to 3 blade.

Any advice is appreciated
