Hi Folks...

New member here and thankful for so many tips on these boats. I am looking for a DE 32 to purchase and the condition can be discussed vs the price. There was a DE 32 for sale about 1.5 years ago for $20K in San Carlos Mexico, blue in color and with a particular galley and saloon layout, that I am looking for. Boat name was Mar y Sol.

I've been around boats a long time and live in the PNW so if anybody has a line on one please let me know. Follows is the link which would fit my bill perfectly.

https://sailingtexas.com/201901/sdowneaster32107.html

Cheers and thanks everyone....

Greg

-----------> As of 10/24/2022 I am still looking for a DE32 and would appreciate any leads. Please don't contact me if you're not sure about selling or on a fishing expedition of some sort. I'm serious and have the funds. Thanks again.

There is a Downeaster 38 for sale near me. I know it had replaced the fuel tank many years ago, therefore removed the teak floor completely (too bad). It is in OK sailing condition I believe and was a group-owned-timeshare boat a couple decades ago. I could probably find out more details if anyone is interested. The owner is flying a certain political flag though (I wont say which one) so that should count for a large discount on the selling price.

It's been for sale for over 1 year at around the same price.

You will have to twist my arm a bit. But, the thought has crossed my mind. I've only had her a year and would like at least another season. The wife's not a sailor, and does not have the enthusiasm I once did. Plus, I'm getting older and starting to have body issues and various pains that have me a bit worried. We are in Stuart Florida.

Paper Moon, my (1977 - 38 Down East Cutter Rig) hull #136 and is in beyond exceptional condition.

Everything has been replaced new starting in 2016, Cutlass, dripless shaft brg, engine -yanmar 40 w/ 150 hrs, Motor has automatic oil pump for oil changes and the fuel tank is set up to continual recirculate / polish. All new standing and running rigging by Mac Sails, Rolling Furling, New butterfly hatch, All New Sails - Head, staysail & main done by Mac Sails w/ mac pack, All new canvas, Bimini, dodger, connector, all matching sail covers, hatch covers. Completely new Bow Sprit, Sampson posts. New bottom peeled and reglassed, hull awlgrip painted, topsides awlgrip painted and new awlgrip non-skid, Port lights, All new wiring, New Plumbing, and upgraded w/ 30gal holding tank. Deck wash. Interior woodwork: new oak ceiling, headliner is gone thru out. All galley main salon Cabinetry redone in Oak. (Not my 1st choice to have been used) It has Davits, Solar, wind, radar and navigation. She carries 750 amp hours in 3 battery banks. 8' dingy new 2016.

I added new 16,000 Btu A/C w/heat and refrigeration. I fabricated a matching overhead cabinet over the galley sinks and a teak swing up counter for added counter space between sinks and nav table. I'm about to install new Pin rails and belay pins. This boat looks almost Brand New, inside and out. She's a head turner.

Things to consider; Replacing the water tanks. Forward tank has a slow drip leak and I am currently not using it, just the aft tank until I figure out the best way to replace both tanks.

When I do sell I do not want to use a broker. If I were to sell now I wouldn't take anything less than what I paid for her. If you would like photo's and start a dialogue I suggest we do it thru emails.

Just let me know

I bought my 1977 DE38 (Cutter Rig) one year ago here in South Florida. For $45,000 --- 15% Above BUC Condition ($45,195) It was a 3rd owner who had lived aboard and sailed the Caribbean for the last 10 years. I was lucky to find this boat before it listed with a broker. I had searched for more than year nationwide for one of these models and all but given up finding one in decent condition.

This boat is very exceptional. Everything has been replaced new starting in 2016, Cutlass, dripless brg, engine -yanmar 40 w/ 150 hrs, All new standing and running rigging, Rolling Furling, New butterfly hatch, All New Sails done by Mac Sails, All new canvas, Bimini, dodger and sail covers, New Bow Sprit, new bottom, peeled and reglassed, hull awlgrip painted, topsides awlgrip painted and new awlgrip non-skid, Port lights, All new wiring, Plumbing, upgraded and new 30gal holding tank. Interior woodwork: new oak ceiling, no headliner & cabinetry redone in Oak. (Not my 1st choice to have used) It has Davits, Solar, wind, radar and navigation.
As far as selling price & determining valuation for any boat.. A boat is only worth what BUC places it at depending on the condition. Then the surveyor has to document it as such and a few limited banks will still loan 20% against the survey. Mine is with Lafayette Federal in Rockland Md.

BUC Valuation for a 1977 Downeast cutter is $35,400 to $39,300 (BUC Condition) No Adjustment --- Plus 15-20% (Excellent Bristol) --- Plus 10-15% (Above BUC Condition)

Minus 10-20% (Fair) --- Minus 25-50% (Poor) --- Minus 50-80% (Restorable)

Paper Moon surveyed at $48,000 with a replacement cost of $380,000 by Florida Marine Surveyors

I own the boat at a loan cost of $36,000, I think I got a really good deal. She's completely refitted for another 20 years of service. I'm hoping at some point these Downeast Yachts become collectable and sought after considering they are fast approaching antique status.

Seawonder has been our home for the past 4 years. However, we have moved ashore. She has a good running 27hp Yanmar with less than 550 hours. A newer set of mast spreaders with LED deck lights. A LED steaming light. LED port and starboard nav lights. Radar, chart plotter, Icom VHF radio, 3 anchors, 110' chain, anchor windless, 1kw inverter, roller fuller, and a WindX
And much much more. Seawonder could be considered a bit of a fixer, depending on the skills of the new owner and how big their dreams are. But she should clean up very nicely. Therefor, there is a low asking price of $19K or best offer.
Older Raymarine radar
Windex
Reef fulrler system
Newer jib sail approx 2 seasons old 110% made by Ullman Sails
2 group 27 duel purpose batteries replaced last year .Electric head with 14 gal bladder holding tank
